01 WELCOME !
Well if you are reading this you already know that The Birmingham Black International Film Festival IS BACK for a third instalment, This year is geared up to be another exciting fun-filled festival with an eclectic mix of Film, Music, ‘Live’ Arts, Seminars and Master Classes. There will also be the usual lavish parties, as well as the ever popular “M-VISAs The Music, Video and Screen Awards [MVSA] to complete what is set to be another exciting period in Birmingham’s social events calendar

As we look back 2008 was a phenomenal year for the British film industry, with the likes of Slum Dog Millionaire winning multiple awards on a national and international scale. The success of this film has highlighted other talented actors in the black film sector with M-VISA award winner Noel Clarke picking up a BAFTA for his film Adulthood. These examples of excellence have undoubtedly injected new life into the urban end of the film industry with independent film makers seeing a clearer path to success

This year we are returning with a more streamlined festival focussing on the growth and development of black cinema in the region. This means providing more platforms and outlets, and increasing accessibility and creativity while displaying the regions talent to the world. In this quest we also aim to remind ourselves of who we are and to celebrate the achievements, influence and the valuable contribution made to society through our culture. So come experience the best of black cinema and entertainment the city of Birmingham has to offer.
